    On the Road

As I think back to all the roads we’ve traveled, the one that holds a special place for our team starts at the nexus of Columbus where Broad meets High Street, or as it’s more commonly known, U.S. Route 23. For those of you who know this area of the country, Route 23 takes you from the capital city through southern Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia. These rural communities serve thousands of families who love where they live but are struggling with declining populations and high unemployment.

Our travels along this road have allowed us to work alongside highly committed professionals, volunteers and passionate donors. When we first met them, each was undertaking a new fundraising journey. They included the building of a healthcare education center, a new cancer center, an expanded hospice care facility, the renovation of a children’s museum, and the rebuilding of a school of nursing. Each of them has since seen their dream realized. As a result, these communities today are stronger than ever.

Today, Adena Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio has a stunning new Health Education Center that houses its new Nursing School supported with joint relationships with area universities. The community now has expanded employment opportunities, and professional healthcare educational programs are readily accessible.

Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio is serving significantly more families in their totally renovated Hospice House which grew from one room to twelve.

Holzer Medical Center’s new Cancer Center in Gallipolis, Ohio now enables families to care for loved ones and receive extensive cancer treatment right in their own backyard.

The Highlands Museum and Discovery Center in Ashland, Kentucky was able to take its current home, an old downtown department store, and renovate three floors with exciting interactive exhibits capturing the remarkable history of the tri-state and implementing many experiences for children and their families.

St. Mary’s Medical Center’s new Center for Education in Huntington, West Virginia included the relocation of its 80 year old School of Nursing and accredited schools of radiography and respiratory therapy. The educational training for health care professions in these areas has greatly enhanced health care services and employment opportunities for numerous communities throughout Southern Ohio and West Virginia.

These philanthropic results have once again made the world a better place and we were honored to be a part of it.
