Adena Health Foundation (Chillicothe, Ohio) recently received a $1 million gift from PACCAR industries, parent company of Kenworth Truck Company.
The gift was made in support of the Foundation’s first ever capital campaign to build a new Healthcare Education Innovation Center. Originally conceived to respond to the critical shortage of healthcare professionals, the $15 million Center, poised to open in 2008, will feature an on-site school of nursing, community education programs, and physician training in the latest technological and clinical care breakthroughs. Ralph Metzger, Executive Director, said, “The new PACCAR Medical Education Center will provide opportunities for healthcare education in Southern Ohio that, previously, were only available to students who were willing to leave the area and go to major metropolitan areas. We know from experience that very few of those students ever return to Southern Ohio where they are really needed to practice their professions.” Metzger added, “Imagine the first class of, say, 30 new BSN nurses graduating in 2010 – they will earn about $50,000 salary and have full fringe benefits for themselves and their families. That’s $1.5 Million per year being injected into the regional economy. This is all about jobs, education and healthcare.”
Memphis Jewish Community CenterThe Memphis Jewish Community Center has surpassed its goal of $15 million by raising, to date, $15.4 million. This capital and endowment campaign, in conjunction with Jewish Family Service, is the largest in the Center's history. The campaign has exceeded its goal thanks in part to three generous lead gifts totalling $8.5 million. The projects include a new Water Park, 18,000 square feet of a new Wellness and Fitness Center, and expanded endowment funds for both agencies.
